The Bubbly Café is a bright and colourful hotspot in the Nairobi coffee world and the perfect blend of commercial and neighbourhood café design. As a professional interior design company, it gave us utmost pleasure to design and build the Kilimani bakery extension, turning it into a completely functional and attractive café space.
The key concept for Bubbly Café would be to create an outlet that signifies the same energy that has been implied in the name ‘Bubbly’. Our team conceptualised the theme ‘Effervescence’ for designing the cafe, which included designs related to circular patterns implying fluid movement.
Our cafe planning services included several key aspects that make this space so distinctive:
Architectural ceilings:
Designed to specifications, we created an innovative gypsum ceiling with creative 600 mm circular cutouts to give the interior a lively feel.
Signature counter display:
The front counter display is the centre point of the café and is designed to have the menu and fresh products most prominent to the guests. This comprises a glass display and a separate extension for a high-end espresso machine display.
Louvred details:
As a way of enhancing this idea of hand craftsmanship, we included round louvres in our design for the counters, along with louvred seating for the bench seats and sofas.
An excellent café should look and feel as wonderful as its coffee. Naturally, our design strategy emphasised wellness, ensuring:
Optimised circulation:
We ensured that the traffic flow is well designed to facilitate the movement of customers from the cashier to the pick-up point and self-serve.
Ergonomic comfort:
The chair selection aimed to incorporate ergonomic comfort, with flexible tables that can be linked to each other to suit a particular number of people.
Calm and order:
We designate the back-of-the-house areas, such as the kitchen entrance and the barista sink, to maintain the customer area as calm and well-organised.
Staying true to the brand, we used an exact match of the café’s signature branding colours across the space. This vibrant identity is anchored by:
Natural materials:
Beautiful wooden accents and tile flooring provide an organic feel.
Light tones:
Screeded and painted walls create a clean, bright background that really highlights the branding colours.
For today’s society, a café has to be “Instagrammable”. We integrated some of the latest restaurant renovation designs to improve social interactions:
“The Instagram Wall” :
A section with interesting ‘drip’ light effects and an illumination of the brand slogan, created to help guests capture the experience on social media.
Incorporating natural light:
The design ensured maximum light from the new extension wall, and together with our lighting design concept, it makes the café light and airy from dawn to dusk.
By partnering with us, Bubbly Café received a professional turnkey solution provided on a fast-tracked 30-day schedule. We managed every technical detail, from the complex plumbing and electrical points required for the barista station to the custom-fitted cabinetry. The result is a high-impact space that maximises seating and operational efficiency while staying strictly within a carefully managed budget.
